How do you sketch?

Loosely- lots of implied detail that won't be finalized until inking.
Tightly- very refined, may possibly even add shading to sketches

I usually sketch tighter in more detail-reliant places and looser in things like clothing and hair and fluffy bits of clothing and animals. That's just because I'm lazy, though, and when I'm just doodling I'm generally really refined considering that nothing will ever get done with most of that stuff.
