Thanks Obama.

Journal Entry: Fri Mar 7, 2014, 11:23 AM

Seriously, I am so sick of this stupid obamacare thing so I am going to rant about it. Ignore me if you don't care. XD

But yeah, okay so our deadline for applying for the program is the end of this month. I have been trying to apply for MANY MONTHS and I STILL don't have insurance.  I applied online, after much frustration with the non-functional website, and I was told I would be contacted shortly afterwards. But after a couple of weeks of not being contacted I called them, and they were like "Oh yeah, it's all good. You just have to wait." So I waited a bit longer and nobody contacted me. SO I called back, and they were like "What, we don't have an application for you in our files. You trippin, girl?" And I got really annoyed because I went through the whole process online and they told me they had it, but somehow it magically vanished from their files. So I filled it out again over the phone with an actual person, so they could input it and there wouldn't be any computer errors. And then she told me I just had to wait again to see if I could get medicare/medicaid (I don't know which is which) or if I needed to get one of their plans. So I waited a couple weeks, and nobody contacted me. So I called back, and a different girl had to re-ask me a bunch of stuff, and then promptly told me that I was eligible for medi-whatever, because I guess you don't actually need to wait, and the first girl was just being dumb. So she told me they were sending my application over to my state's individual health department because it was their problem now and the gov't can't do anything until the state either decides to accept or reject me into medi-whatever.  If they accept me, then I get that insurance, but if they refuse me, then I have to go back and re-apply with the government healthcare and get their packages. But I can't do that until Arkansas makes a decision.  So the gov't lady told me it should take about 2 weeks for the State department to contact me with their decision.

Well, it's been 5 weeks and they still haven't called or emailed me, so I called the government healthcare people back and asked if my application had actually gone through or not, and the lady said that it had gone to them, but that was all they knew. So she gave me a number to call my state's health department to ask about my status, but oh my glob, this is the worst service line EVER.  For one, automated phone menus suck, but that's normal for calling something like this. I get that they want to categorize callers to send them to to appropriate service rep. And I also know that a lot of phone menus are designed to avoid having to connect you to an actual human if possible, because let's face it, no company actually wants to talk to you if they can help it. -_-  But there's that nifty little trick where if you press 0 during an automated menu (even though it's never listed in the options) you'll bypass the menu and automatically be connect to a service rep.  But I try giving the regular menu a chance first to see if it works, though it usually doesn't.  But the freakin menu for the Arkansas healthcare thing that I'm supposed to be using is by far the most inaccessible I've ever seen.  I feel like it's just kind of a joke.  It's goes like this-

I call the number, and I get the general welcome message and the "Press x for spanish" options. Okay, so far so good. And then it starts listing options, so I find my option and click it. Then I get another message telling me what info I'll need for the call, and that I'm going to be put on hold. Okay, that's normal too. So then I get put on hold, and I'm thinking everything is normal and that I'll probably be on hold for quite a while. Again, normal. But then after 15 seconds (I counted because I've called so many times now) it promptly tells you that nobody is currently available, and then it hangs up on you! Which is total crap, because how on earth am I ever supposed to get in to talk to anybody when I can only be on hold for 15 seconds because it auto-ends the call? Normally a phone line is supposed to put you on hold, and if it tells you they're busy it suggests calling later, but it keeps you on hold for as long as you want or until you get connected to a representative.  But this line just hangs up on you like "Sorry punk, we don't have time for your silly problems."

So I'm like "Okay, well I'll just press 0 in the menu and get directly connected." But nope, it's a trick menu. Pressing 0 just restarts the options list instead, so there's no way to get connected other than getting put on hold. But you can't actually hold because it hangs up on you after 15 seconds! And I'm so annoyed because I have been trying to get my healthcare for ages and still don't have it, and if they can't get me processed by the end of the month, then I won't be able to apply again until the next opening, which who knows when that will actually be.  And I would really like to have some kind of healthcare because it would be nice to not have to pay out the butt just to visit a walk in clinic.  Seriously, I can't afford to go to any kind of doctor because I can't afford any kind of medication, so if I get sick beyond a little cold, I'm screwed.

ABLASJJajsndjnksdkjklasjkldskkdskdksdkdksjdkjksjlkdfhadlfjklaksfJKANSJFC THANKS OBAMA :iconragequitplz:

So now I'm just going to spam the other menu options and if I get connected I'll be like "Hey, random computer tech service guy, give me someone I can talk to right now!! D:<"

This is why I'm glad that I don't live in USA.
Granted, I live in one of the poorest countries in the European Union, but healthcare is affordable and with no ifs and buts. I can't wrap my mind around how it's supposed to be "privilege". .____.

Aye. I actually can really understand with all of this. : \ Honestly it's basically just another regulation and tax on people, is what it amounts to. I wish you the best of luck with this, I really do.

I'm currently looking into getting a cash-only doctor and just pay the penalty this year. My parents are also struggling to get covered because they found out that with Obamacare their monthly bill would be three times as must as it was before!

Yeah, I ended up qualifying for Medicaid, which will pay my monthly premium for an insurance plan. But problem is, hardly anybody takes Medicaid. :<

I've found that there are tons of sites online for looking for doctors who take cash and some even do their own monthly "subscription" type thing.

I guess the easiest thing about that would be to not live in the USA :D. Though that doesn't really help you with your problem.
Or if your government just had implemented a usefull healthcaresystem from the very beginning, the previous one sounds absolutely horrible too (though I might not be fully informed about that).

Well I mean, it was a good idea, I just really wish they had fleshed it out more before trying to implement it. Because now it's just a headache.

Oh I tried applying back in late Janurary for Medicare, still haven't heard anything in any way possible.  I really hate this plan, we've had plenty of examples to copy from yet we pick the most inane garbage.

Boy that sounds like a pain in the brain :/
I'm still on my mum's insurance but once I turn 26, I'm on my own. Not looking forward to that day.
I understand why they've implemented Obamacare but they really pushed it through way too fast. I mean, they spend $400 million on a site that doesn't work for half the country? There's a problem with that.
I hope you were able to get a living, breathing person on the phone sometime before the next global climate fiasco :o

I think what is adding more problems to the issue is that the government has been closing down many of the smaller forms of insurance companies. (aka any that aren't solvent by government standards). Many, many people have lost their health insurance because of this, plus many people have lost their jobs because of this too. Smaller companies can't afford to give their workers healthcare anymore either because of this. Therefore, fucktons of people have been trying to apply and government has not been able to handle it.  My mom works in the healthcare industry and she tells me this is just an overall a nightmare. I am afraid that when I go off my parents health insurance next year that I will be really screwed.

From what I have heard from friends who went through the exchange, honey, you don't want it.  It's too expensive (my friend who works a full time job just barely at minimum wage has to pay 320 dollars a month.  Yep.  And, oh yeah, she's perfectly healthy, has no pre existing conditions, but that's just her quote)  and it's a hotel California when it comes to leaving.    She found a different health provider that's about 20 percent cheaper for a similar plan, but she's been waiting over a month to get her service cancelled and her premiums refunded.

I'd say just leave that festering site be and try to look at a health broker, here's an article from the Huffington Post www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10…

Anyways good luck, but I suggest leaving the ACA website alone for a good long while... maybe, like, forever, actually.   Really, it's not worth it and is more buggy than Sheezyart.  And that's saying something.

ugh that's the worst!
my dad is an IT guy and anytime anyone brings up the peice-of-crap website they have he just gets....
ugh like it's so frustrating for him because he could probably fix it easy? like they aren't even TRYING when it comes to the website and it's so horrible that you actually have to try to make it that bad???
yeah. not looking forward to the time when I'm actually booted off his medical insurance (I'm mooching for as long as possible :< )

I know this is kinda a weird suggestion, but maybe try bringing your story to Jon Stewart? He's always covering these types of stories because they are real (and because of the way you've worded things here, a little amusing too, although in kinda a sad way lol ><)
Sorry that's probably no help at all, like the folks below, I also live in Canada and have like no advice :(
I wish you luck with this tho, I know gov't crap is always super slow and very tedious :/

One of my loan services has that exact same trick menu! So frustrating!!! Although, out of my rage, I found that if I pressed the 0 button 3 times like really fast or whatever, then it connects me to an actual human being? So weird, but maybe that will get you through? Good luck!!

Actually, I've considered it in the past, funny enough.  There's a lot of studios in Canada. One that I getting ready to start working with has most of it's offices in Canada (and then one in Cali).  I wouldn't mind terribly. I mean, honestly, you guys don't seem that different from us. I'm just not sure I'd wanna live way up North. XD

Well, the studio I'm collaborating with is called "All Play no Work." Just a little company, but they do some neat stuff. And oh man, I don't remember specific names off the top of my head. I've got a big file stored of a bunch of studios and their contact information that I made with a friend for a business class right before I graduated and I remember like, a quarter of the list (of like, 300 studios) were in Canada. XD

Oh wait, you mean like what do the studios do? Oh pretty much anything. Animation, film, video games, table top games, small publishers. Just your normal studio-type stuff. XD

Oh really?
Canada is responsible for a lot of animation.

I mean when people think Canada they always think "ugh Justin beiber, maple syrup so lame"
But Canada is responsible for a lot in the animation industry.

So yeah we have a lot of studios you could always work with. (It wouldn't be hard to get in because most Canadian Animators always go to America for jobs at Disney or Cartoon Network)

Sadly not as much video game stuff, but yeah Animation is p big here

After college, I was looking for a steady job and ended up in the "Wonderful World of Health Care". Trust me when I say that Medicaid, while better than nothing, is only going to open up more cans of worms for you. The one hospital I worked for accepted it, but could only see X amount of these patients because we basically were seeing them for free and too many free appointments, of course, is bad for business. Health care should not be a business!

I honestly wouldn’t mind something like Australia’s system: pay a little more on taxes (only if you make X amount in a year and don’t pay for private insurance) and everyone can see a doctor for far cheaper. But NOOOOO, the Obama administration CAN’T raise taxes - that would put a black mark on their record! So let’s make this whole complicated process that’ll force everyone to jump through hoops before they can get mandated insurance. Yes. Well done, Obama. >:C

Well, I finally got through to the medicaid people on the phone here a minute ago (what a miracle, wow) and he told me that I could get insurance through another company like blue cross, and medicaid would just pay the premium. But that I would essentially present Blue Cross insurance to a doctor, instead of medicaid. Because I am fully aware of how many doctors offices don't accept medicaid (which that whole thing... ugh, don't even get me started.) but I hoping maybe doing it through another company will help me out a bit? :<

I'm so glad you were finally able to get through! As far as BC is concerned, sometimes that's the case, but sometimes not. I know that with the current place I'm working with, we don't accept Medicaid. We accept BCBS, but we're trained to look for certain hints on your insurance card that tell us it's partnered with Medicaid. We end up telling you you'll have to pay in full if you want to be seen and usually waste a person's time and gas money. If the place does accept Medicaid, then it'll probably be a different story. Just be up front and honest with the person you're scheduling with: tell them that you have BCBS, but it's through Medicaid. They should be able to tell you if they accept it or not. If they're not sure, just ask to speak with billing and get it straightened out before you head to the office. You'll save yourself from a lot of frustration and disappointment.
