SH: Move like that by Turtle-Arts SH: Move like that by Turtle-Arts
I did a gesture sheet a while back for you guys that's had pretty stable viewing since I made it, so I thought you guys might like to see another one! It's a bit smaller than my last "move like that" sheet, and this time it's actually from my Sky Herder project book. This page is a set of studies I did for Mier, the main protagonist, to help myself get a better feel for the shape of his actual body without the bulky clothing that he normally wears. The character is 14, so his proportioning is a little different than my typical characters. Hence the anatomy study. Instead of the body-box style drawings like before, I'd been working in silhouette, which is another really easy way to work with a character without having to worry about all of their minor details. Also, working in silhouette is a great way to see how readable you character is, even without all of their defining detail. Normally I'd do these kinds of drawings with costumes included, but this was more of a general anatomy study for Mier than anything. But I figured since these were more pose oriented, you guys might still like to see them. So, enjoy! And hopefully this will make you want to try some similar studies with your own characters! Because the human body is such a great thing, that you should just draw it all the time. XD

Gesture drawing are good for you. 8D I think I'm gonna try to get my friend to do more of these. Admittedly, I should be doing more too. I have mad love for top right corner. that's using negative space. :D I also like the laying on the floor one.

This totally reminds me of the time when my friends and I unknowingly became the models for a couple of art students on the train... We were just standing there cuz there were no seats left and in they come, one of them whips out a small sketch book and starts sketching. I peek over and I see that he's drawing my friend, and apparently by the time we got off, three of the four of us had been sketched :P
