Yay! My christmas picture for class is all done! (well, I may make some small adjustments before printing tomorrow, but probably not too much) And I'm actually pretty pleased with it. :3 I really like this style of painting that I've gotten into more recently thanks to my professor. It's a very "freeing" way of painting that I can do much quicker than how I was painting earlier this semester. Lol, it just took a whole semester of squabbling with my teacher for me to settle again. XD

Anyhoo, this is our Christmas assignment- basically we were supposed to illustrate the phrase "The happiest man in the world" in regards to Santa Claus. I decided to do a young Nick making a toy to give to a child for the first time. :3 Yay Santa! I think I had the most fun painting the reindeer's mane actually. XD I've never really done a long-haired animal like that, so it was kind of new. Anyways, hope you enjoy this and it gets you psyched for Christmas! :iconlawooplz:

EDIT: Oh wow, thank you so much for the DD! I really wasn't expecting that! So much love! :iconbrohugplz:

Art and characters property of :iconturtleshelltered: NOT for other's use.
Except Santa... nobody owns him. XD

Beautiful! I love Santa's expression -- he really does look like the happiest man in the world. :3 And the textures for the fur trim on his coat and on the reindeer's fur are wonderfully done.

Love the volume of this guy's jacket and his animal's fur. You really know how to make some intense fur textures there. It's cool how you can tell just in his face that this guy is definitely the soon-to-be Saint Nicholas even without his beard and hat. Just his jolly, warm, flushed face, and kind blue eyes will tell you that. And I really love your reindeer. Particularly because it actually looks like a reindeer, something the classic animated Christmas specials never accomplished. With that chain of jingle bells barely fitting around the creature's waist, I'd say it's almost fatter than Mr. Claus over there. I absolutely love its horns, and especially those eyes, blue and biting as the frost of December cold. They really are the cherry on the epic spin this Christmas scene holds. Those knotty, twisted trees form the swirls of winter's blistering blizzards - the scenery and look of this picture gives a feeling quite far from the fuzzy, quiet feel of a general Christmas scene, but the warmth is there, particularly in the red-suited (and faced) character in the middle of the picture, giving a feeling that this is a guy whose endearing spirit endures all the bitter cold this world has to offer. This is a brilliant picture.

Saint Nicholas was A Turkish bishop from a town called Myra. When he wasn't much older than the boy in that picture he was thrown in jail for being Christian after the roman empire returned to paganism. He was freed by Constantine and earned a Badass nickname: Nicholas the Wondermaker. Supposedly, the tradition of leaving toys in stockings comes from Nicholas leaving toys inside kids shoes.

Yup. I know the basics of the real story. :) I chose not to follow it for this piece, but it's still neat to hear about. ^^
