Mini-Project: The Girl by Turtle-Arts Mini-Project: The Girl by Turtle-Arts
Moving right along- this was the girl I designed for our student mentoring prompt. She's the Reaper's soon-to-be-ex-girlfriend. XD Originally I had a totally different girl designed, but ended up settling on this girl instead because I liked the contrast between her and the Reaper more than with the other girl.

I really like when I come across your old stuff when I'm browsing someone's favourites. Because it means I made a really good choice watching you XD

she is so darling! I love all of her expressions and the hairstyle/colour play!

you are so good... I'm trying to get better at proportion. None of my new attempts (well except the new quiddtch girl) are on DA, but I'll post something for critique.... love this hair choice! Its exactly like mine except I'm auburn and its a tad longer. (letting it grow out more for November to do a Katniss braid at the movie premier. lol..) but its usually exactly this length and style! I love this girl!

Aww, thanks! ^^; And Proportion is important, but it's something that you can tweak a bit depending on the image. This character's proportion's for example, are a lot more stylized that what I normally do. But it seemed appropriate with the prompt to me. Though I think it's good to learn it the correct way before you try stylizing too much.

this is the style I like. My people tend to look too real. I have a problem using too many lines and they don't look cartoony enough. I think I need to loosen up! I need to practice drawing the entire person 'sketchy' first instead of focusing too closely on something before then entire form is planned out... I also have to keep telling myself "Only 8 heads tall! Use the noggin and measure...."

Ah, yeah I think this girl is like, 5, maybe 5.5 heads tall. I tend to elongate my figured more towards the 7-8 head range, but as I said before- I kind of adapt my style to whatever the prompt calls for.

And yes, learning to draw loose, quick sketched is definitely a good thing. It'll really help you with characters, especially with having to draw the same character multiple times.
