LC App: Ardan by Turtle-Arts LC App: Ardan by Turtle-Arts
*Edit* Yeah I made it in! Hooray! Ardan-laugh by ardan-sadplz

Name: Ardan
Age: 20 (equivalent of roughly 11-12 for magic creatures, though his usual human form appears very slightly older)
Gender: Male
Faction: The Sanctuary
Occupation: Traveler/Cozener- essentially a traveling trickster. Ardan doesn't have a profession, but he does odd jobs as needed for money. He doesn't need much money though since he doesn't need to buy things very often. He generally considers money a "play" object rather than a necessity.
Species: Hedley Kow (Monstrous Species: lesser fae)

Talents/Abilities/Magic/Enchantments: Shapeshifting {natural ability}- As a Hedley Kow, Ardan is a natural shapeshifter, able to turn into essentially anything he desires to a certain extent. He is able not only to turn into other creatures, but also inanimate objects (which is a feature his species is predominately known for) Due to his young age, he is more limited by size though, and can only manage creatures about the size of a horse, and objects about the size of a small cart. He has less limitation transforming into smaller things, but can't go much smaller than a grasshopper sized creature, or an object roughly the size of a pocket watch. He can change on a whim, but changing too often drains his energy, and the larger the object, the harder it is for him to change and maintain a form. Overexerting himself by changing too frequently, or by turning into things that push his size boundaries, has adverse effects on him and can cause: tiredness, pain, nausea, and loss of consciousness in some cases. (Pictured above is the typical form that he takes, but is is not unusual for him to take an entirely human appearance, particularly if he wishes to be more inconspicuous. He usually takes a fully human form when away from the Walking Castle- at least until he is sure of whether or not his fae nature will be met with acceptance or fear. Though, the form he usually takes is not actually his true form, as he technically does not have one, but it is the one he almost always reverts back to when a humanoid form is required.)

Equipment: Apart from his key to the Walking Castle, Ardan doesn't carry too much under normal circumstances, but he likes to carry small nick knacks in his belt pouches. Similar to some small animals, Ardan has a fondness for shiny objects, and likes to collect little bobbles that he finds while out and about. Generally, if you meet him on the street, it's a good idea to keep a close watch on any glittery valuables that you are carrying, as Ardan may habitually try to take them if left unguarded. He's not an intentional thief, but it is in his nature to pick up things that catch his interest.

History: Though Ardan seems young to be traveling alone by most people's standards, it is not uncommon for his species. Hedley's are not a familial sort of creature, and they typically only stay with their parents until about the age of ten, when their powers have had time to fully develop and they are no longer helpless and in need of protecting. They leave their nests to search for a place to build their own home, as Ardan has done. Thus far, his wanderings have led him from the Eastern border into the Land of Stillness. Since he is still very young, Ardan has no desire to find a permanent residence yet, so he is prone to traveling and exploring.

Having had little interaction with other races before arriving in the Land of Stillness, Ardan quickly learned that not all people were accepting of his nature- some even considering him as a creature or monster, rather than as a person. The first town he tried to enter was a human village. At first the people were simply wary of him, but allowed him to pass through the town without hindrance. Ardan even stopped to play with some children, who, unlike their adult counterparts, were not so cautious of their strange visitor. However, when the children told Ardan that they wanted to play knights, and that he would be the monster, Ardan took the game too literally. To the children's surprise and terror, Ardan turned into a large wolf and began to chase them. To Ardan, it was harmless fun, but the people perceived him as a monster and attacked him, thinking he would harm their children. They drove they young Hedley away and into the woods, where, saddened and confused, he hid himself in a hollowed out tree trunk and cried for a long while. But after some time, a voice spoke to Arden, telling him not to be sad. Surprised by the voice, Ardan looked up to find a strange creature before him. The creature, though fierce, did not frighten him, and instead spoke of how the land was not always safe for someone like Ardan. It told him that some people may wish to harm him if they could, but that others were kind and would help him. It then told Ardan of a kind witch who had built a haven for people like him, and that if he wished, Ardan could go there. Excited by the prospect, Ardan agreed and followed the creature to a small, hidden door in the forest.

This was Ardan's first introduction the the Walking Castle of the witch, Evelyn McCauley, which he now calls his "general" home. He loves the hidden city and the wide variety of people that live there, but Ardan's love of adventure keeps him from remaining in the city for long periods of time. Instead he likes to wander, using the hidden doors to return to the city whenever it catches his fancy.

Personality: Ardan is generally kind and good natured, but as with all Hedley Kow, he is an insatiable trickster. He loves to play games and have fun, but his idea of fun is usually that of tricking or manipulating others. He is not violent or cruel in his trickery though, and his jokes- while at times appearing frightening to those they are inflicted on- are not ill-willed. Usually his tricks are irritating, but harmless and only cause minor inconvenience, and if they are harmful, it is usually unintentional. Ardan finds his tricks very funny, and does not understand that the people being tricked might not enjoy the joke as much as he does.
As much as he likes to play jokes though, Ardan is also very helpful, and enjoys making people smile. He is inclined to do favors for people without thought of payment (though he won't say no to a shiny bead or a colorful feather) For example, say you are having a problem trapping a rat in your house? Ardan is the cat that will catch it for you. Nothing to carry water in? Arden will be a helpful jar for you to fill up. But his help is rarely straight forward. He may scratch up your favorite chair before catching that rat or spill some of the water, causing you to slip and fall a few times. However, if you take time to make friends with Ardan, he is far less inclined to play tricks on you and is a much more reliable source of help.

Likes: Adventure, playing jokes and games, shiny/colorful objects, the woods, people in general, relaxing, listening to stories or music.

Dislikes: People that are poor sports, people that are mean or hateful towards him, working hard, being mistaken for a fawn/satyr (which is fairly common when he is sporting his typical hoofed feet.)

Other: -Ardan has solid black eyes with no discernible difference between iris and pupil- any creature he turns into shares this eye color. It's not that he can't mimic eye color, he just usually forgets about it.
- Ardan does not have a house since really any place can serve as a home for him. For example, when he is tired, he might simply turn into a mouse and find a hole to curl up and sleep in. Or even better still, he may simply turn into a stone amidst a pile of other rocks and sleep there.
-Though he cannot change into multiple creatures at once (such as a swarm of bees or a flock of birds) Ardan can give the appearance of turning into multiple inanimate objects, such as a jar of coins or a deck of cards. However, he cannot be "separated" in these forms. If he appears as a container filled with something, the smaller objects cannot be removed from the container. Or if he takes the shape of something like a card deck, the cards can be spread, but only so long as they are still in contact with each other. Individual cards cannot be removed from the deck. Because of this, Ardan tends to favor turning into singular objects as it better preserves the illusion.
-Ardan does not need food such as the kind that one might purchase from a market. Since he doesn't like to work to earn money, he doesn't buy market food. Instead, when hungry, Arden is more likely to simply turn into another creature and eat as they would. He may turn into a rabbit and eat some dandelions, or a sparrow to eat seeds from a garden feeder. He is typically herbivorous, but only because it is easier. He will eat meats if in the form of a carnivorous creature, but he typically doesn't as he considers hunting to be too much work. If he decides to eat in his more human form, he simply eats whatever is offered.
-Though Ardan loves to collect things, he does not hoard them as he does not have a permanent place to keep things. He will keep things he deems as useful, but for most things he collects, once he has finished examining it, or when he grows bored of it, he will simply discard it, or give it away to whoever happens to be nearby. This means that he is prone to giving random gifts to people. His gifts, while typically worthless, are rather endearing. Ardan often likes to give gifts to people who appear unhappy in his eyes. So if he sees someone sitting alone with a sad look, he is likely to give them a small gift to try and cheer them up.

-Ardan occassionally changes shape by accident when he receives a jump scare or is very startled. And sometimes he changes when he sneezes, though this was more common when he was little
-Ardan is usually slightly taller when sporting his hooved feet than when using fully human legs. There's typically about a 3-4 inch height difference between the two forms. Consequently, he comes across as a little younger when in full human form due to the height difference.
-Ardan is practically incapable of refusing a game.  It is in his nature as a Hedley to accept any game offered him, even if the stakes are dangerously high.

Yeah yeah! :la: What faction are you applying for? :> Also, better do it quick, I don't think there's too many spots left. I took either the last, or second to last spot in Sanctuary.

Well, I would rather you didn't, but if you want to keep the pictures up that you've used mine for reference in, I'd rather you at least credit back to me in the comments for those pictures. Like, provide a link back to the image you based it off of at least. I'm not mad, but you should probably avoid using other people's pictures for reference without crediting back to them. It might get you in trouble some day.
