Face of the Dog by Turtle-Arts Face of the Dog by Turtle-Arts
So, like I said, it's finally time for me to share some of my traditional art with you guys! Mostly by that I mean my sculpture stuff, since I don't do too much traditional painting or whatever. But some of you may recall that I said I took a ceramics class this last semester- well, now I'm finally getting around to sharing some of my projects with you guys! ^^

This is one of my faves that I did in that class. It's a lifesized mask, though it's just for wall hanging, not for wearing as it's not actually open on the back. I made it because I had been looking for a fourth mask for my wall, but I couldn't find one I liked. So I decided to make my own instead. The assignment for this was to create something that was at least 75% covered in texture.

Technique used- American Raku

Wow I really enjoyed your ceramics! My father (who's ceramics teacher) just stood there and smiled. This shows you're a very versatile artist :)

Holy Hell. I've never done ceramics, but it doesn't sound like something that would be easy. This is awesome

Thanks! And yeah, some of it is difficult, but I actually really enjoyed the class. Though I won't be taking the next one because ceramics 2 consists of nothing but using the wheel to make mass amounts of tableware. >_< And since I suuuuuuuck at the wheel, I'll just stick to sculpting in my free time.

That's cool =3
What was the class like? Like, how do they start to teach it?

Mostly it was just teaching us how to manipulate the clay in different ways, how to use the wheel, glazing and firing techniques and such.

This is so fun! I would love to take a ceramics class. I wonder if I can find any for cheap...lol. Seriously, this is fantastic. I'd love something like this in my house...if I had anywhere to put it. My house is so teeny we don't have any room for more decor lol.

Thanks! ^^ And yeah, I ended up having a blast in my ceramics class, though I never used the wheel for any of my projects... we didn't get along well. XD So I was more of the resident hand builder of the class. XD

As for the space, I don't have nearly enough room for all the projects I brought home. So they're just kind of everywhere. XD

Lol I always wonder how I'd get along with a pottery wheel...I'd love to at least give it a try! It stinks not having room, huh? There are a lot of projects I'd like to make but I don't want them taking up what precious space we have lol.

Yeah, I'm sure I could be better at the wheel if I gave it a chance, but I really have no interest in making vases and tableware, so the wheel wasn't very high on my to do list. XD And yeah, not having much space pretty much sucks for an art person. I finally got the chance to take old classwork out of my apartment this summer, so that make a little space, but not much.
