First of two pics for round 1 in

. I chose to start with the second option: a training battle between you and a member of your same side. So, I partnered up with the wonderful

and had my boy Mouse and his deino, Grenich fight Chase and his sneasel, Marika. Mouse and Chase aren't members of the same faction, but we weren't limited to our specific faction, so that was nice.

But gosh, compared to Chase, Mouse is such a little stick. -_-; Toothpick legs... lol Though I was surprised to see that Chase wasn't actually that much taller than Mouse. :I

Both these guys are pretty nonchalant about actually commanding their pokemon in battle, so I figure this fight would be more along the lines of just Marika and Grenich going at it while the actual trainers just sit back and watch. XD Mouse isn't particularly interested in non-aerial battles, so this isn't really the kind of thing that excites him. :I Actually, I would have preferred to not even have the trainers in this drawing, but the rules said we had to. Oh well.

I have to do one more for this round, either an aerial race, or the obstacle course. Probably gonna do the race. :3 And apparently, we're not really supposed to write stories for this round either, so I guess just take this pic at face value.

I went through a lot of versions of this. Never could quite get something I liked, but this is the one I disliked the least. XD Coloring came down to me just screwing around as well really.... I mean, I worked very hard on this. >_> *cough*

Those are some pretty sweet battle effects, especially Grenich's. I like the style here, it gives this pokémon battling a suitable feel similar to that of a gritty military movie. Along with a slight manga edge, particularly in those dust clouds, and those spikes of dirt disturbed by Marika's claws.

...aaand I don't know what to say.
Or where to start, rather.
This is what magnificence looks like when you make a Pokemon Battle version of it.
I love the feeling of rush you managed to convey, in the poses of the fighting creatures, the angle of the scene and the colors and effects you applied. That is a lot of energy and I am liking every aspect of it. Your shading style nicely complements the fierce grittiness of the clash too.
Also Grenich.
