Yay! Something non-school related! XD

So, I went and saw X-Men First Class on Friday and it inspired me to do some x-men fan art. Namely of my very most favoritest superhero- Nightcrawler! (Batman comes in close second, but Nightcrawler is my fave) Now, I know Nightcrawler wasn't actually in First Class, but his dad was, so that's close enough I guess. XD

Anyways, I guess this is my interpretation of good old Kurt Wagner... he ended up kind of military... which was actually purely unintentional. >_> But I liked it so I decided to stick with it. :3 I'd been meaning to do a pic of Kurt for a while now, but even though I've drawn many pictures of him, none of them were ever anything I deemed "share-worthy." >_< But I liked this one, so I figured I'd let you guys see it. :3 Now let's talk about why I like Nightcrawler! ^^

Firstly, he's just plain cool. Plain and simple. He's cool looking, has a cool power, and a cool German accent. XD Also, the sound effect for his teleportation is totally "bamf" which perfectly describes him as well. lol

Second, he has a really neat backstory and overall character. I love the fact that he's a mutant who heavily resembles a demon but is an extremely devout Catholic. It's a lovely contrast that was really cutting edge when he was first created. It leads to some really great conflicts with this character that make him really interesting. However, like most X-Men, his personality is subject to change depending on the particular installation of the series. Sometimes Nightcrawler is really lighthearted and flirtatious, playing jokes on people and displaying an excellent sense of chivalry. Other times he is more serious and dark and makes for a more intense character. I also love the fact that for a long time he was a circus acrobat. For some reason I find that really entertaining. XD

Third- His weapon is a sword which automatically equals a win. I love that his superpower doesn't actually give him an attack, like Cyclops or Storm. He actually has to get up and fight his opponents up close and personal. However, all he has to do is teleport behind you and stab you in the back and you're dead. So basically, don't mess with him. -3-

Fourth- His power isn't unlimited. I like when a hero's power isn't "infinite." In Nightcrawler's case, his teleportation causes him physical strain and if he uses it too much in a brief period or tries to teleport extremely long distances, it is very taxing on his body and leaves him weakened for a while. It's a nice limitation on his power that also can be used to his advantage. Nightcrawler's teleportation is physically hard not only on himself, but also on people he teleports with. However, since Kurt has a higher tolerance for it than most people (since he does it all the time) he can use it as an attack in and of itself simply by grabbing hold of someone and making several short teleportations with them. This doesn't affect Nightcrawler, but it leaves his foe extremely weakened, usually to the point of fainting.

Now I'm not always happy with the way Nightcrawler is portrayed... particularly in the stupid cartoon where all the X-Men were in high school and Kurt was basically shown as a total doof who was pretty much the worthless punching bag of the team. -_- And I was a little dissapointed with the Nightcrawler in the second X-Men movie. Though not too much- mostly I just didn't like how he looked. But either way, he's still a cool character and he'll always be my most favorite super hero. :3
